Painting With Light

Let Us Paint You With Light

Light painting is a technique that uses a moving light source such as a flashlight or light stick during a long exposure. The camera is mounted on a tripod and the shutter is left open while you are ‘painted’ with a beam of light. Done correctly, this can produce some stunning results. When light painting, the photographer and model will work together and we both become ARTIST! Light painting takes patients but the results can be very rewarding.

Light painting is tricky because you don’t see what you’re doing until you finish taking the photo. That is why for this photoshoot we will be ‘teathering’ our camera to a computer. After each shot the photographer can review what the result was and adjust accordingly. This way we can help guide you and make suggestions about what to do for the next shot.  Think of the light source as a paint brush. The beam of light is the paint, and the air around you is the canvas. And the photographer is your personal painter!

Painting light in the air will leave long streaks in your picture while turning the light on and off will create a staggered pattern. Waving the light while it is on will produce beautiful swirls and light orbs.

For your photoshoot we will have a light stick that is capable of several different colors and patterns. This is will give you many different creative looks. Each shot we take will be between 20-30 seconds long. Therefore it will be very important for you to hold very still during that time period if you want to remain in focus and sharp.

NOTE – This is a late, night time shoot.

FAQ

WHERE IS THE EVENT LOCATED?
The event is at a private home located in Oregon City. Once you purchase your ticket you will receive a confirmation email with the address.

HOW LONG SHOULD I PLAN FOR?
You should arrive at least 15min prior to the start time of your photoshoot and be ready to go. You will have approximately 45min of shooting time with the photographer.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
Some suggesting include:
• We recommend solid, light colors with white clothing working the work best. The light will be reflecting off of you. If you wear black, you may fade into the background and not be seen. – But that can also be a style you can choose too.
• Long flowing garments that are translucent can also have a dramatic affect to your style of image. Or something as simple as a sports bra and shorts/briefs as seen in our sample shots can yield great results too. Just remember, the light will be reflecting off of what ever you are wearing.
• There are no real wrong answers here. Use your imagination. Again, remember what you wear will be lit up with light.
• It will be a HOT summer night, so plan accordingly. – (bug repellant may be in order here since you will be outside)
WHAT IF I ARRIVE LATE?
We highly recommend you arrive by your check-in time. Remember, you are reserving time with the photographer. As such we are not able to allow your session to go over into the next session. Please plan ahead accordingly. No refunds will be issued.
